Fear is a palpable emotion which the elite of the Dark Lord taste like precious nectar. Even ones thoughts, trained from birth towards a task or faith can betray even the most righteous entity.

The Dark Eyes are intimately attuned to these things and as such are unaffected by illusion, visibility or pity. They are the ultimate expression of lost humanity, followers of the Devout who, though they have retained their human shape, have surpassed it in ways unspeakable. Dark Eyes are always found in small groups wielding their Dark Swords in a dance macabre that is the last sight their victims will ever see.
