Axemen

All the Elven Houses maintain a fair sized retinue of Swordsmen, Spearmen and Axemen in their standing armies. These forces are referred to as Retainers and are well respected for their skill and versatility. These Retainers are professional soldiers drawn from the families loyal to the various nobles and are schooled from childhood in the ways of war. Unlike other races, membership in one of these orders is reserved only for the children of nobility. The common citizen cannot advance into these orders. The Axemen are highly trained veterans who often serve as bodyguards to the Elven nobles and are deployed to break up stubborn enemy formations or as the spearhead of an Elven assault. In battle they favor Battle Axes which they use to cut bloody swathes in the ranks of the enemies making them feared opponents.
